Ystwyth CC TT report – round 9
As Aberystwyth returns to normality following the hugely successful CycleFest; 15 riders signed up for round 9 of the Ystwyth CC Time Trial series.
Round 9 saw the riders register for the 22 mile hilly time trial, utilizing the Ystwyth CC road race circuit the riders would climb from Southgate to Devil’s Bridge before navigating to Ponterwyd and climbing up to the Nant Yr Arian visitor centre. From here, a 7 mile sweeping descent would greet the riders to the finish line.
On a rolling course, many riders would favour a road bike over a TT bike and many riders would be feeling the ‘burn’ from a weekend of racing and sportive riding.
In the men’s event, Gruff Lewis showed strength and ability to take the win in a time of 52min 19sec. Second place went to Richard Pizzey in a time of 54min 41sec and third place went to Danny Thorogood and Ciaran Rowett finishing with the same time of 58min21sec.
Five riders also went under the hour mark and a further five were under 70 minutes.
In the ladies event, Toria Jamieson took the win in a time of 1hr 20min 51sec.
This is one of the toughest TT courses in the area and it was great to see the riders taking on the challenge.
Next week, the riders return to the 10 mile Llety Gwyn course. With the temperature rising and riders having a number of TT’s in their legs, records could continue to fall this season.
