As a club we have raised and donated over £1,500 to Papyrus, a national charity working to prevent suicide in young people.
Thanks to everyone that was involved and came together for the memorial ride, auction, club dinner and the raffle. As a club this enabled us to raise this fantastic amount in memory of the friends we have lost and to be able to support others and each other going forward.
We will continue to work with Papyrus to raise awareness and support, and have recently set up a page on our website for anyone looking for further information and support:
This week saw twelve riders taking on the flatter Llety Gwyn course, named after the local hotel that used to be the sign on location for this 10 mile time trial.
The Llety Gwyn course is one of the oldest of the club courses. The route heads out on the A44, then down towards Cwm Rheidol to reach the 5 mile point, before returning back to the start.
Many notable names have ridden this course. British professional cyclist, Leah Dixon holds the women’s course record set in 2021, with her time off 22.20. While Josh Tarling, riding at the time for Flanderscolor-Galloo in 2022, holds the fastest men’s time with 19.31.
Last night saw Finley Tarling take the win on the night, with Caron and Rich battling for 2nd and 3rd. Caron took the spoils this week with Rich closely following only 21 seconds behind.
In the ladies event, Lowri Richards, looking strong from a good winter of training, took the win with her time of 24.31 and Anita taking second in 27.22.
These events are a fantastic way for riders to test themselves against the clock, and provide great training for all cyclists and triathletes.

Thanks to all the riders, Andy H, Derek and Elaine for their organisation and help on the night, making the event possible.
Next week the time trial series returns to the Cwm Rheidol 10 mile course. All riders welcome, and details will be posted on the Club Facebook page beforehand.
This is your chance to be on the Ystwyth CC legend Leaderboard!
For the week 10th – 16th June, all YCC members are encouraged to ride as much distance and elevation as possible.
The top three leaders will have their names published for the most distance, the longest ride and the most climbing for that week!
Just make sure you’re a paid up YCC member for 2024 and have joined the Ystwyth CC Club on Strava. All rides will count from Monday 10th June until Sunday 16th June, 23.59!
We are continually working with Papyrus to provide awareness and support for riders, friends and family. Our latest project is the creation of a new page on our website that provides advice and support:
It was great to see the return of the TT series. The 13 riders were treated to the scenic but rolling, Cwm Rheidol 10 mile course. Testing out their legs for the first event of the year.

Great news! The time trials are back for this year. Everyone welcome, come along to test yourself against the clock, gain fitness and enjoy a chat afterwards.
Whether you’re looking at taking part in triathlons, road racing or time trials. These are open to all cyclists.
Ystwyth Cycle Club funded this 90 minute session, held on Friday 9th February and invited all riders from the club, past and current to attend this training session. The session was delivered by Billie from Papyrus, who the club have been working alongside with, over the last six months.
It was a really useful and well delivered session, which we all took away more knowledge and information.
Over the 90 minutes the session covered;
To understand the prevalence and impact of suicide
To explore the language, and the challenges, when talking openly about suicide
To recognise the ‘signs’ that may indicate someone is having thoughts of suicide
To consider how we can all contribute to a suicide safer community.
Thank you to Billie from Papyrus for delivering this really informative and useful session for Ystwyth Cycle Club.
As well as our generous club member only offers from our main sponsors Cambrian Tyres and Summit Cycles, which can be found here, we are pleased to announce two new offers to club members for 2024.
The Ystwyth TT series is back for 2024! Add the dates to your diary, these are great events held in and around Aberystwyth. Test yourself against the clock, improve your fitness and have fun!

Following the great feedback from 2023, the club are continuing the monthly café meet up rides.
The concept is simple, join one of the advertised Sunday rides on the 11th February, or make your own way to Yr Hen Lew Du, Bridge Street, Aberystwyth, for 11.30am for plenty of homemade delicious cake and coffee paid for by the club. Everyone welcome on or off the bike!!
Just to note that for the February monthly café ride, we are aiming for all riders to be at Plascrug Leisure Centre for 9.15am, in club kit (if possible), because we’re presenting a cheque to the charity Papyrus for the money raised from the Memorial Ride and the raffle at the club dinner.
There’s plenty of bike storage inside the pub if you cycle there and a warm welcome for everyone!
