Ystwyth CC / Catalina Architecture 2025 Time Trials – Round 13 Report

The 13th round of the Ystwyth CC / Catalina Architecture 2025 Time Trials saw riders tackle the tough Nant yr Arian course, with fast times, personal bests, and a new age-category record highlighting a competitive evening of racing.

Caron Owen Pugh continued his fine form, taking first place with a swift time of 31 minutes and 54 seconds over the hilly route.

Paul Brewer claimed second with 34:20, and in doing so set a new V60 (Veteran 60+) course record, surpassing the previous best held by Glyn Williams. Brewer’s ride combined power and precision on a course that demands both.

Glyn Williams, the former V60 record holder, put in a superb effort to finish in 35:11 — a personal best for him on the course, and all the more impressive given he was riding a road bike without tri-bars (denoted by the “R”). Although Glyn improved on his own previous record, it wasn’t quite enough to hold off Brewer on the night.

Martin Williams, riding for Ystwyth CC / Catalina Architecture, also completed the course without tri-bars, posting a time of 44:11 in a determined ride. This was enough to secure him a new club V70 record!

The Nant yr Arian course is well known for its challenging profile: the first half features a long descent, where riders can build up speed, but the second half climbs steadily back up, demanding stamina and strong pacing to finish well.

The event ran smoothly thanks to Andy Hunt, who provided marshalling duties, and timekeepers Andy Davies and Derek Rattray, who ensured accurate results throughout.

With just a few rounds left in the 2025 series, competition remains fierce and records continue to fall. Riders are already eyeing the final stages as the season nears its conclusion.
