Records Tumble at Nant yr Arian Hilly Time Trial

Aberystwyth, 28 May 2025 — It was a night of determination, speed, and record-breaking performances as riders tackled the notorious Nant yr Arian Hilly Time Trial, one of the Ystwyth Cycling Club’s most challenging and scenic events.

The course, famed for its long, rapid descent and steady climb, saw Caron Pugh and Lois Brewer rise to the occasion — both setting new course records in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.

Caron powered through the course to finish in a stunning time of 30 minutes and 38 seconds, breaking the previous men’s record and firmly stamping his authority on the event. His halfway split of 11:07 showed early intent, and he never looked back.

In the women’s field, Lois Brewer delivered an equally commanding ride, setting a new women’s course record with an outstanding time of 36:14. She was followed by strong performances from Emma Palfrey, who claimed second place with 38:33, and Hannah-Mae Samson (R), who rounded out the women’s podium in 41:25 — an excellent effort.

Second overall in the men’s standings went to Richard Pizzey (R) with 31:47, followed by Dewi Hughes (R) in 34:21.
