Pugh Sets the Pace at Ystwyth CC Cwm Rheidol 10 Time Trial
Cwmrheidol, May 21, 2025 — The Ystwyth Cycling Club’s weekly time trial series continued on Wednesday evening with the Catalina Architecture-sponsored Cwm Rheidol 10-mile event, attracting a competitive field of riders tackling the scenic but undulating course.
In fine conditions for racing, Caron Pugh delivered an outstanding performance, clocking a winning time of 21 minutes and 39 seconds, comfortably securing first place on the night.
Arwel Jones followed in second with a superb 23:57, setting a new personal best and showing clear signs of progress in his form this season. Fellow club rider Adam Hepburn claimed third place with a strong 24:47 in what was his first event of the season, marking a confident return to racing.
The top five was rounded out by experienced competitor Paul Brewer in 24:59, and Lowri Richards, the fastest woman on the night, with an impressive 25:05. She was closely followed by Lois Brewer (25:59), Anita Saycell (28:08), and a trio of riders including David Bond (28:13), Martin Williams (30:26), and Mike Fitch (30:56).
There was also a spirited contest in the over-70s category, with Martin Williams narrowly edging out Mike Fitch in a friendly but competitive battle, both showing impressive determination over the challenging course.
The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of timekeepers Derek Rattray and Elaine Rowlands, and marshals Aled Richards and Tom Jewell, who ensured the evening ran safely and smoothly.
